Alli's Articles
INTERVIEWS, REVIEWS, CULTURE PIECES, MUSICAL RAMBLINGS.
I know, I know, I'm a horrible blogger right now. It's already half way through October and this is my first post this month. Don't blame ME, blame my homework, my sports, my internship, my life. It's not like summer when I could churn out articles every night...sigh...times are tough. Since I have no ideas, I'd thought I'd give a little life update, and an exclusive tour of the World of Alli this month. Enjoy!
Tom The first very important (but traumatic) thing that happened this month was Tom Petty. If I could choose one artist to sum up every family beach barbecue I've attended ever, it would probably be him. I found out that he died (the first time) when my mom told me as soon as I got out of volleyball. Of course, like any normal grieving person, curled up on the bench outside of the school for a while, causing everyone who passed to question me. I could only mutter "Tom....." The song that was playing as I got into the car that night was You Don't Know How It Feels. If you've heard it, you know that the harmonica plays a huge part in the chorus. For some reason, the sound of the harmonica really resonated with me as I Shazamed it. I payed no mind to it until the next day in art class when I heard a song that sounded EXACTLY like that harmonica part. I Shazamed again, and it was Don't Carry It All by The Decemberists. I don't know what exactly this means, but I just think it's weird that harmonicas were an important theme this week. Maybe it will all make sense one day... Pinegrove Twitter. A land of mystery and attractive people, but mostly the latter. This girl I follow is a huge fan of a band called Pinegrove. I heard like, one song by them one time, but that was it. The picture she posted of them changed that, though. The singer was SO CUTE. It drove me to finally Google them and listen to their music, and a lot of it. Now, SO MANY OF THEIR SONGS ARE ON ALL OF MY PLAYLISTS. Lesson I Learned: Thinking someone is cute can drive you to do things you've never imagined you'd do. Also Pinegrove is mad good. Song 2 I had a game the other day and they had the weirdest collection of songs playing throughout the gym before it started. These songs included Song 2 by Blur, Something Just Like This by Coldplay, a strange dubstep remix of Seven Nation Army, the song from the movie Here Comes The Boom, and Jump Around. On a loop. Each song playing 4 times each. Totally wasn't repetitive while we were practicing! Except for Song 2. That was amazing. Black Mambo This isn't really significant but the other night I had this really short dream where I was in a Wawa with my team. As I was slithering smoothly through the isles looking for some tournament snacks, Black Mambo by Glass Animals was playing in the store. Everyone was staring, but I kept on gliding and dancing very hypnotically. New music video idea, GA??? Sad Hype Music??? I had a mini-self-discovery the other day: I think sad music pumps me up. I was listening to a moody-kinda song the other day before my game, and I found that it inspired me to go out and BEAT THEIR BUTTS! I think it's because I do not like being sad. I hate sulking, and by listening to sad music, that makes my likelihood to sulk 10000% worse. So instead of being sad, I get angry at myself for being sad, and I remind myself that I am better than this. Then, I channel all the emotional-ness of the song to pump me up and make me feel like I need to get revenge on whoever the singer is singing about. I really can't tell if that's even legible to anyone else, but I said what I feel! Some Songs of the Month So Far You Get Me So High - The Neighbourhood Witness - Will Butler Aphasia - Pinegrove O Valencia! - The Decemberists Ike & Tina - Jamie T I hope that this article finds you happy and calm. If you're stressed about something like I am with my schoolwork and sports, I just want you to know that you're NOT IN IT ALONE. Talk to someone. Rant to me. That's the main reason why I haven't been posting. I'm stressed, and this causes me a little more stress sometimes, and taking a break is ok. Have a great weekend everyone! Stay cool-lected! ∞
