Whenever I'm bored and have zero article ideas, having the "Discovered On Insta" series is a good backup plan. I get to crank out some quality content while discovering some quality people at the same time. This week I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and I saw these guys pop up. I knew they followed me a while ago, and I enjoyed some of their funny and entertaining posts, so I just knew their music had to be good. The first song I listened to on their Spotify was their newest single, deadheads. Let me tell you a little sumthin'...I really really really really really like this song. I feel like it represents everything good about indie rock culture - the fun, the friends, the carefreeness, and gosh dang, the drums. Those drums give me life and gives this song even more energy than it had before. This song makes me want to have a fun rebellious teen life, like any indie song should. I don't know why, but if I lived in London and my friends and I were spending a night in town, I would want to listen to this song and anything off of Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club. I could head the similarities between them the most in this song. As for the London scenario, I don't know. Sometimes when I listen to songs I get transported to random and sometimes very detailed situations, but you should all know this by now.
I love it when you listen to bands and you feel like you're in the studio with them, just because you can feel the hard work, energy, and friendship that was put into the song. That's how I felt while listening to Indigo Club. It put a smile on my face just because it made me excited and happy to have friends that I can party with. But yes, I have decided that The Montreals are the very cool and hip lovechild of TDCC and Bear Hands. They're really rad and I'm definitely going to stan them forever after hearing their discography so far. Also, they have very cool clothes and hats on their site, so I'd suggest checking that out if you enjoyed their tunes and you have some merch money to spare. That's all for today, my friends. Be happy. Be kind to people. Be you. Don't let anyone control you from being you. You can't help being you. There's a little mid-week inspo for ya!

Sometimes random bands follow me on my Instagram, and I have no idea why. Maybe they just were scrolling through another bands followers and followed whoever, or maybe they genuinely thought I was a cool person and potential fan. A while ago, a band called The Assist followed me, so I just followed them back and thought nothing of it. Until a couple days ago, that is. I saw that they posted a teaser thing on their Instagram about a new video for their song, Wonderful, so I decided to head on over to Spotify to check them out. I was immediately attached to this video because the special effects aren't fancy or expensive. Most of the special effects in famous videos today are all over-the-top and crazy. The cute little drawings in this video are creative and have their own little personal touch and style to them. It's very simple in the best way and shows a normal crush that develops into a regular relationship. It's just a sweet song in general, not gross like a lot of the love songs of today's society are. Good job dudes, I really like this one! The first lyrics made me feel like my mind was being read from my last paragraph. It seems like these guys are about genuine love songs, not just kissing and being sexy and all that ew stuff. This is my favorite song by them, because I, like a lot of people, can relate to it. Being afraid to reveal our feelings to someone. This song just straight out says "DO IT, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T SPEAK YOUR MIND NOTHING'S EVER GONNA HAPPEN TO YOU!" This video also established their video style for me. Very cartoonish and fun, and most importantly, colorful. They're living in their own happy little world and I'm totally here for it. Also, I want one of those shirts but I'm completely broke. This video has a lot less colors, but I'm still cool with it. Also the whole firecracker (?) thing was really cool, and it fits the whole sound of the song, I feel. Love, light, a sudden burst of electricity. Anyone? I'm analyzing too much at this point.
In summary, I'm so happy that this band decided to follow me, because now I'm aware of all of their cool music. If you guys see this, hey. What's up. Yeah. You guys rule. And I wish the best for you! And if you're ever in New York for whatever reason you should totally play a show. Or three. ;) |
