Hello, readers of earth and anyone else who happens to be surfing my internet wave. It has been a long two months at Twilight Collective in which we have been trying to get through reviews. The review have in fact not been gone through. But here's a review I'm actually quite confident in, because it's a classic case of 'I liked the first single so I'm already attached and will get this done quick.' That's totally a thing, right? Okay, now onto the band intro. BNQT is a giant collab (supergroup?) which consists of a bunch of really cool people that I don't feel like listing because I'm probably going to skip someone, but they're from bands including Travis, Franz Ferdinand, Midlake, Band Of Horses, and Granddaddy. Anyway, let's go. RestartThis song does things to my mind, man. Seriously. Whenever I listen to this song I feel like I'm some badass adventurer guy wandering around a desert in Arizona while the cold desert moon shines down on the cliffs and the cacti around me are rustling in the wind, and there are lizards skittering about on the ground below. And maybe there's a coyote. Everything I know about Arizona is from 8th grade history class and that 'Goodnight Arizona' book I had when I was six. Anyway, the song. Right. Everything in this song just gives it like this 'origins story' vibe that one might find in a Marvel movie. I feel like this character really wants to start something. Also, great vocals and instrumentals. Oh, right, the fade out. I'm usually not a fan of fade outs, but this one makes it feel like the character is going off on his journey. Unlikely ForceThis is nice. Alright. This sound has really surprised me, but it's nice. Nice! Good! Cool! Good. Yeah. The vocals in this one are so nice. This is weird to say, but the vocals remind me a little bit of Death Cab. Another fade out? Nope, just some weird audio mixing, maybe? Alright. Still really good. Maybe it's a me thing. Alright. Okay. I do kind of feel like this one goes on forever, but um, again that's a me thing. Is this the fade out? Maybe????? Weird audio mixing??????? Is this what 2017 sounds like????? Ok, this is the fade out. Yep. 100 Million MilesThis is chill. Oh, and now there's a cool guitar thing going on. That's nice. I'm a fan of that. Heck yeah. This song has a serious vibe. I don't know exactly what the vibe is, but it's nice. Violin solo?? Nice vocals, still. The vocals on this album are really good. I just texted Alli 'I;m in Texas' for no reason at all. I'm sitting in the library in my school, which is located in New Jersey. Cool synth thing! This song is going so many places and I'm a big fan of all of them. Except the fade out. Just ONE song without a fade out is enough for me. WAIT. THAT WAS NOT THE FADE OUT. Is this the fade out?? I don't even know anymore, man. I've been listening to this for five minutes? Mind Of A ManThat intro sounds really good! I like the guitar and vocals in this one! It reminds me a bit of Saint Motel, somehow. This is calm. Alright. Do all of their songs have to be over four minutes long, though? Why do they keep doing volume drops with a minute still left in the song? Or maybe I'm hearing things. I don't know. Just do your fade out and go. Good song, though. Hey BananaThis is chill. I like it. Oh, okay, it's Alex. Hello. This is calm. I'm hoping for no fade out on this one? I like it, though. It's nice. Honestly, if this song isn't about Alex fighting someo-- Is he... No he's not. He did that to a banana???? Is banana a person??????? WHAT IS THIS. You are not getting a banana involved in this. That has to be the weirdest sentence I've ever written. So many questions. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE???????????? HELP. I have to go to class. No fade out or weird audio drop yet! That's a good thing. NO FADE OUT!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! But um, yeah. Besides the speculation on who exactly this banana is and why Alex is... Y'know I'm not even gonna say it... This song is really nice and well put together, and the instrumentals and vocals give it a creepy vibe that I actually really enjoy. Real LoveThis is lit! I like this one!! So much is going on here, but in a good way. I really do have to go to class, though, so I'll be back with the rest of this one the next time I have any free time. This is really good, though. It just sounds really nice. I like this. Alright. And no weird audio drop! Just really calm and good and fun and yeah. I like it. Failing At FeelingNice intro! This song is really nice, and again there's that vibe that you can't really name. I like how the piano and drums work together. Again, I have to criticize the audio mixing, because it's quite obvious that the instrumentals cut out slightly when the vocals come in, like kind of a reverse-Strokes thing. That just adds to the mood of the album though, and the instrumentals in this song are really smooth and put together, which is always a good thing. There's also that sort of feeling where the song feels too slow, though, because there really aren't many changes through any of these songs. But if that's the vibe they want, it's really interesting, and I appreciate it. I also like how they keep adding in layers of instrumentals. And no fade out in this one either! L.A. On My MindThat guitar riff! I love this already. Okay. I'm here for this. This is going on my '70 MPH On The Freeway' playlist (in progress). I'm a really big fan of this song. That guitar just makes me feel like I'm out in the sunshine. Can it be summer already? The vocals in this one are really nice too. Guitar solo!!!!! Heck yeah!! TaraThis song is really fun and light, just like the last one. I really like it, and I don't feel like it's going on too long at all. The guitar is really good in this one, too, which of course I like. I felt an audio drop, but I'm not really sure. Yeah, it was. This fade out is okay, I just feel like it started a be too early. This song is still really good, though. Not a full fade out! That's good. Fighting The WorldThose fun vibes BNQT provided are now gone. This is Alex again, right? Alright, he has a power voice, so that's a good thing. This song is actually really nice and calm and the guitar is really nice. I like the synth and guitar in this song, it's just really chill and calming and the vocals work really well with it. Although there's a fade out, and I personally would have ended the song on a final guitar chord, it seemed to really fit the song. ConclusionThis whole album made me feel like I was in Texas. Just pointing that out for, y'know, an overall tone word. Texas.
I wasn't the biggest fan of this album, mostly because of the audio drops and fade outs and the songs feeling like they went on too long, but towards the end, it really started to pick up. I'm a fan of heavy guitar riffs and power vocals, so this really wasn't my thing, but it was very well put together instrumentally and the vocals were really nice on all of the songs. It's quite obvious that BNQT's main focus is vocals, having so many vocalists. I just wish the album was arranged a little better, because most of the fun, light songs happened at the end after song after song of audio drops and fade outs that started too early. The production is really good and all of the songs themselves are really well put together. Also, it takes a lot of effort to make a supergroup work, especially when the members are from literally all over the place. I know I don't usually rate albums, but I'm giving this one a 8/10 overall, because although it wasn't my thing and I wasn't a big fan of the audio mixing, it was really well put together and I really liked a lot of the songs. Go give it a listen. I'll see you guys soon for my next article. Stay chill.
